Massachusetts Lottery Mobile App Wins NASPL 2024 Award for “Best Website, Microsite, or App”

The Massachusetts Lottery’s Mobile App won the North American Association of State and Provincial Lotteries (NASPL) award for “Best Website, Microsite, or App” at the fall conference in Kansas City. Most recently, the Mass Lottery mobile app was enhanced to include a seamless scan-to-enter feature that automatically awards entries into digital promotions for eligible non-winning scratch tickets.

The scan-to-enter feature is available to the more than 370,000 registered players that have signed up for a Mass Lottery player’s account. This feature was first offered for select instant ticket games in which players can enter Second Chance Drawings for a variety of cash and experiential prizes. Players can simply scan any eligible ticket using the mobile app to be entered into these drawings. Scan-to-enter promotions for other instant tickets already in the market have recently launched, allowing the Mass Lottery to offer a wider variety of promotions targeted at boosting sales for certain games.

Prior to the scan-to-enter feature, Mass Lottery’s mobile app was already an industry leader with one of the first mobile cashing programs in the world that allows players to claim winning retail prizes of $601 to $5,000 from anywhere. The mobile cashing program has already paid more than $150 million in prizes to players using a secure process that deposits after-tax winnings electronically into the player’s bank account.

“We are thrilled to be the software, design, and consulting partner to the Massachusetts Lottery that has executed on a collective vision for an industry-leading mobile app experience to players across the Commonwealth”, said Danny Bogus, the founder and CEO of Gambyt. “The Massachusetts Lottery has always been an innovator in the industry and continues to seek new ways to serve its customers, now using mobile apps to enhance and extend the retail gaming experience.”

“We’re honored to receive this recognition,” said Liz Giffen, Digital Director at the Mass Lottery. “This award is a testament to our commitment to providing innovative and user-focused solutions. Our collaboration with Gambyt allowed us to create a mobile experience that truly meets the needs of our players and sets a new standard in our industry.”

The Massachusetts Lottery’s profits support towns and cities across the Commonwealth and provide critical funding for local projects. Since its inception in 1972, the Mass Lottery has provided more than $33 billion in net profit for unrestricted aid.
