Retailers & Digital - Unlocking a Multiplier Effect for Lottery

Last week at the PGRI conference in Ft. Lauderdale, I had the privilege to provide a thought-leadership presentation to describe a vision whereby lotteries (and not just those who sell iLottery) gain a huge advantage by embedding digital features into retailer apps. It was also an opportunity to share the investments and solutions that Gambyt has proudly made into this space.

Decentralizing digital lottery features to support retailers

You can’t drive past a street corner, fill up your gas tank, or make a quick convenience store trip without running into lottery products. Yet in the digital world, lottery exists largely in isolation with features that can only be discovered and utilized on the lottery’s website and app.

Meanwhile, lotteries have openly shared struggles, including loss of sales, due to new online entrants into the gaming space such as sportsbooks who are often drastically outspending the lottery in advertising dollars. In one example shared during the PGRI conference from a state lottery, a 40-1 spend ratio was estimated in favor of a large sportsbook.

How can lotteries compete against these new market forces, while being faced with limited advertising budgets in an ever-increasing fragmented digital landscape? This is where we believe the multiplying force of retail partnerships far outsizes the competition and can make lottery pervasive in the digital world.

Take for example our rough estimate of total app downloads comparing lottery to gaming competitors and then sizing it up to current and future retailer apps:

A comparison of sports, casino, lottery and retailer app downloads

Imagine a world where lotteries gain a 10X - 20X multiplying force on their reach in the digital space. It’s a future where the lottery’s digital footprint is decentralized, like it is at retail, to harness a superpower that the competition cannot match.

We invite the industry - from lotteries, to retailers and gaming system providers to explore this new opportunity space with us. Gambyt has already created mobile-powered lottery experiences for retailer apps that we can readily demo, configure, and install. In the coming years, we believe that these efforts will provide a major contribution to making lotteries more relevant and accessible to consumers.
